Owensboro man killed in vehicle collision

CALHOUN, Ky. An Owensboro man was killed in a vehicle collision near Calhoun on Tuesday.

Kentucky State Police Post 16 – Henderson received a call from McLean County Dispatch just after 2 p.m. Tuesday regarding a two-vehicle collision on Kentucky 81 at the intersection of Kentucky 140. This location is about five miles north of Calhoun.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Jessica McDaniel, 29, of Owensboro was traveling on KY 140 in a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. The investigation determined that McDaniel pulled out onto Kentucky 81 in front of Barry Vanover, 73, of Owensboro, who was traveling southbound on Kentucky 81.

Vanover was operating a 2016 International 4000 box truck. Vanover unsuccessfully attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid striking McDaniel but lost control and drove off into an earth embankment.

The McLean County Coroner’s Office pronounced Vanover pronounced dead at the scene.

McDaniel was treated on-scene for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said it is believed both operators were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Kentucky 81 was shut down for four hours Tuesday as troopers reconstructed the collision.

The investigation is on-going by the Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police, McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Central Fire Department, McLean County EMS, McLean County Coronor’s Office and Kenergy assisted troopers at the scene.
