Colonels Graze Past Braves

The Henderson County Colonels were on the road last night in Morganfield facing off against the Union County Braves in the final regular season 6th District game.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Braves would score first on a ground out by junior right fielder Coltin Capps to give the Braves an early 1-0 lead heading into the top of the 2nd.

In the top of the 2nd inning, the Colonels answer by scoring 4 runs, 1 run on a RBI single by junior right fielder Corben Throgmorton, 2 runs on an error by the Braves third baseman, and 1 run on a RBI double by junior third baseman Cooper Vowels to give the Colonels a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 2nd.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Braves would score 2 runs to cut the deficit to 4-3 heading into the top of the 3rd.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Colonels would score 3 runs, one run on a RBI single from senior shortstop Alec Satterfield and 2 runs on a 2 RBI single from junior right fielder Corben Throgmorton to extend the Colonels lead to 6-3 heading into the bottom of the 3rd.

In the top of the 4th inning, the Colonels would score 3 runs, one run on a RBI single from junior designated hitter Maxton Meadows and 2 runs on a 2 RBI single by senior shortstop Alec Satterfield to increase the Colonels lead to 10-3 heading into the bottom of the 4th.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Braves would score 5 runs, 1 run on an error, 1 run on a walk, 1 run on a ground out, and 2 runs on a fly out as the Braves would cut the deficit to 10-8 heading into the top of the 6th inning.

In the top of the 6th inning, the Colonels would score on a 2 out RBI single by senior shortstop Alec Satterfield to extend the Colonels lead to 11-8 heading into the bottom of the 6th.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Braves would score 1 run on a lineout and cut the deficit to 11-9 but the Braves wouldn’t be able to score any other runs and the Colonels would come away with a narrow 11-9 win over the Braves. The Colonels improve to (10-18) on the season while the Braves fall to (7-17).

Colonel’s offense was led by senior shortstop Alec Satterfield was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s while junior designated hitter Maxton Meadows was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and 4 stolen bases. Junior right fielder Corben Throgmorton was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s while junior third baseman Cooper Vowels was 2 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI on the night.

Colonels senior pitcher Paxton Gardner in 4 innings allowed 1 hit while walking 5 batters and recording 3 strikeouts while junior pitcher Brody Belt came in and gave 3 innings of relief and allowed 1 hit while walking only 1 batter and recording 2 strikeouts on the night.

As a team, the Colonels scored 11 runs and recorded 16 hits, 8 RBI’s, 8 stolen bases, and committed 3 errors on the night.

As a team, the Braves scored 9 runs and recorded 2 hits, 5 RBI’s, 7 stolen bases, and committed 1 error on the night.

The Colonels next game will be Saturday afternoon in a double header on the road against the Christian County Colonels in Hopkinsville with first pitch set for 12:00 P.M for the first game and 2:30 for the second game.
