Henderson man arrested following police pursuit

A police pursuit in Henderson ended after a man was discovered hiding under a log not far from the stolen vehicle he crashed during the chase.

Henderson Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Bill Russell said authorities were notified about a pickup truck with temporary tags that had been stolen from Evansville.

Officers located a vehicle matching the stolen pickup truck at a gas station on South Green Street on Monday.  Russell said that the truck was hauling a trailer that was also reported stolen.

Police approached the vehicle, but it took off. Another officer located the pickup truck and attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as Perry E. Sidney, 42, of Henderson, ran a stoplight at U.S. 60 and Kentucky 136, nearly causing a collision with another vehicle. Russell said the truck swerved and the trailer it was pulling started fishtailing.

Sidney lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. The truck flipped approximately three times before coming to a rest on its side.

Sidney managed to climb out of the truck and took off on foot into a nearby cornfield, Russell said. Officers located him hiding in the woods under a log in water-filled ditch.

Russell said Sidney surrendered with no further problems. Emergency Medical Services treated him at the scene and then he was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Sidney was charged with parole violation for felony offense, first-degree fleeing/evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, disregarding a traffic light, leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree fleeing/evading police, resisting arrest, license to be in possession, theft of identity without another’s consent, improper display of registration plates and failure to appear.

He is lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center.
