Vicki Kloke Smith, age 70, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 4:09 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Vicki served 45 years in public education before serving as the first Principal of Arrow Classical Education program at Henderson’s First Baptist Church; a dream of hers come to life. In her almost 5 decades of service, Vicki was an instructor at Murray State and Western Kentucky Universities. She also served as a mentor for students at Campbellsville University. In addition, she served as middle school teacher and curriculum specialist for Ohio County Schools. Vicki was the last Principal for Central Elementary and the first Principal for Central Academy. She was most proud of her final assignment as Principal of Arrow Classical Education.

Above all else, Vicki was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin. Her family and friends meant the world to her and she was so proud of them.

In addition to her parents, Oscar and Marilyn Kloke, Vicki was preceded in death by brothers: Donald “Butch” Kloke, Steve Kloke, and Robby Kloke.

Vicki is survived by her husband of 27 years, Allen W. Smith; daughter Angela Dawn Smith (Sammy) of Manitou, KY; son Joshua Smith (Cindy) of Franklin, KY; sister Joyce Burdon (Tim) of Fredonia, KY; brother John Kloke (Betsy) of Henderson, KY; grandchildren Colbie Smith and Katelyn Durban; great grandchildren: Avery and Rhett Smith, Amelia Durban, and Zoe Smith; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Vicki’s Life Celebration from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home and again on Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. at Henderson’s First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the church with Reverend Sam Hinkson officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Mills Cemetery in Smith Mills, KY.

James Stuart Mattingly, age 74, of Corydon, KY, passed away on May 4, 2024, at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice in Henderson, KY, from a lengthy battle of brain cancer.

Jimmy was born on May 15, 1949, in Henderson to the late Dorris and Naomi Mattingly, growing up in a large family of 15 brothers and sisters. He served in the Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Alcan Aluminum for over 30 years, but his passion was farming. Jimmy was a hard worker and never stopped, therefore acquiring the nickname “Termite” while working at Alcan.

He loved his family dearly. He never met a stranger and was always the first in line to help out a friend or someone in need. His children and grandchildren will tell you he was the best Dad and “Pa” in the world. He was also the best husband as he and Cathy were blessed to have been married for nearly 51 years. He was Cathy’s heart and will be truly missed by his family.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers: John Daniel “Danny” Mattingly, Robert “Bobby” Mattingly, Dorris Edward Mattingly, Jr., William Joseph “BJ” Mattingly, and David Earl Mattingly; sisters: Mary Alice Workman and Charlotte Herron; paternal grandparents, Lula Myrtle and George Muir, Sr.; and maternal grandparents, Sugar and Pappy King.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Cathy Mattingly of Corydon, KY; his children, Nathan (Cassandra) Mattingly of Corydon, KY, and Amy (Michael) Mattingly-Kimsey of Henderson, KY; siblings: Judy (Jeff) Greathouse of WV, Donald Jeffrey Mattingly of TN, Greg Mattingly of TX, Susan Brooks of Henderson, KY, Tommy Mattingly of Booneville, IN, Paula (Danny) Harper of GA, and Tony (Karen) Mattingly of Henderson, KY; his grandchildren, Ashley (Tanner), Sarah, Maggie, Morgan, Sydney, Matthew, Logan, Adeline, and Maddy; great-grandchildren, April and Bryson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jim’s Life Celebration from 9:00 a.m. until service time this Thursday at St. Peter’s Church in Waverly, KY. The memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the church with Father Dave Johnson officiating. A private burial will follow at a later date.

James E. “Jim” Bellew, age 89, of Henderson, KY, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Plainwell, Michigan.

Jim came from a large family whom were very devout members of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He attended Holy Name grade school and high school. He had worked at Gamco Products for 29 years before retiring. Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran where he served as Sergeant during his enlistment. He was a proud KY Colonel and enjoyed watching western movies. His family remembers the fun they shared on the lake boating, fishing, and watching U.K. basketball games.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Robert Lee and Mary Bellew; siblings: Roberta Kinney, Louise Sumner, Mary Jo Foster, Dorothy McClure, Mable Hurse, Phyllis Rehn, Helen Lee, Tommy Bellew and Roy Bellew.

Jim is survived by his daughter April Louden (Kyle) of Plainwell, Michigan; 3 grandchildren: Michael Bellew, Alexandra Bellew, and Jordan Louden; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jim’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Richard Meredith presiding. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery in Henderson, KY.

Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.

Modesto (Moe) Salaiz, Jr., age 86, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 9:48 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN.

 Moe was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Newburgh, IN. He retired from Gibbs Die Casting after 25 years of service. Moe was an avid outdoorsman and liked deer and turkey hunting in his spare time. He enjoyed watching boxing and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Moe loved taking trips to Branson Missouri to see live entertainment with his wife. He looked forward to meeting his friends at McDonald’s for breakfast.

 Moe was preceded in death by his parents Modesto and Marta Salaiz and his wife Alene Salaiz.

Moe is survived by his wife of 15 years Elmina Joyce McDaniel Salaiz of Newburgh, IN; sons Daniel Salaiz and (Mandie) of San Antonio, TX and Dennis Salaiz of Morganfield, KY; step-son Jeff Mayes and wife (Earika) of Newburgh, IN; sisters Eva Salaiz and Connie Redman both of San Antonio, TX; brother Sam Salais of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Jenae Salaiz and Cory Wilson; step-grandchildren Brittany Mayes, Justin Gish, Lee Gish and Amanda Gish; great-grandchildren Charlotte Mitchell and Celeste Wilson.

Relatives and friends are invited to Moe’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Friday at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the funeral home with Reverend Rick O’Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
