Daviess Downs Colonels 68-57

The Henderson County Colonels (4-2) battled throughout but dropped a 68-57 decision to Daviess County (5-2) Wednesday night at Colonel Gym.

Henderson came out strong, building an 18-11 lead after the first quarter. The Panthers responded in the second, taking a 32-29 advantage into halftime. The game remained tight after the break, with the teams deadlocked at 48 apiece heading into the fourth quarter before Daviess County pulled away late.

Junior Amare Stewart led Henderson County with 15 points. Sophomore MaLaikye Taylor provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Xavion Johnson added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Braden Williams contributed nine points and six boards. Travis Little scored eight, and Zayden Martin and Mikey Woolfork each chipped in two.

Daviess County was led by 6-foot-8 senior DeAaron Watkins, who posted a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. Mr. Basketball candidate Jonathan Moss added 22 points and four rebounds for the Panthers.

Henderson County returns to action early Saturday morning, tipping off at 7 a.m. (CT) against Western in the opening game of the Generals Christmas Classic at Thomas Nelson High School in Bardstown.
