The Henderson County Lady Colonels opened play at the Queen of the Commonwealth Holiday Tournament with a convincing 65-43 victory over South Oldham on Friday in Mount Washington.
Henderson set the tone early, jumping out to a 19-8 first-quarter lead as JaNyla Locher and Jersey Gardner each knocked down two three-pointers. The Lady Colonels continued to stretch the margin in the second quarter, taking a 32-18 halftime lead behind two three-pointers from Bella Estabrook and another buzzer-beater from Gardner. Henderson shot a blistering 7-of-11 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Lady Colonels carried a 52-36 advantage into the fourth quarter and comfortably closed out the win.
Henderson’s pressure defense caused problems throughout the night, forcing South Oldham into 22 turnovers, while the Lady Colonels dominated the glass with a 38-21 rebounding edge.
Locher led Henderson County with 13 points. A’Tylia Green recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Estabrook and Gardner finished with nine points apiece, Callie Burnett added seven, and Nevaeh Dixon and Addy Gish each scored six. Brynn Rideout chipped in three.
Henderson County advances to the tournament quarterfinals and will face Louisville Central on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).
