CORYDON – The City of Corydon has been awarded a grant for recycled picnic tables and park benches.
On May 12th, Gov. Andy Beshear announced over $1.3 million in funding for 36 projects in 30 counties for park improvements – including in Henderson County.
The funding comes from the Waste Tire Trust Fund and is distributed through the 2026 Crumb Rubber/Tire-Derived Products Grant program, which is administered by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet. The projects will transform recycled waste tires into safe, durable products for playgrounds and public parks.
The City of Corydon was awarded $9,129 to purchase and install one park bench in the playground’s baby swing area and nine picnic tables, including one wheelchair-accessible table in the shelters and pavilion areas at Crawford Park. The new picnic tables will be constructed using approximately 1.1 tons of crumb rubber derived from waste tires generated in Kentucky.
“Receiving this grant is an exciting opportunity for our community,” said Corydon Mayor Ronda Moore Smith. “These improvements will create welcoming and accessible spaces for families, seniors, and visitors, while also demonstrating our dedication to environmentally responsible solutions.”
The upgraded seating will replace aging benches and provide durable, low maintenance amenities designed to serve the community for years to come.
