Authorities arrest two Henderson teens in connection with Waverly fatal shooting

Authorities have apprehended a pair of juveniles connected to a fatal shooting that left one man dead and another injured over the weekend in Waverly.

Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 13000 block of Ranch Road in Waverly at about 12 a.m. Sunday to investigate a shooting incident.

Deputies found that two people had been shot – 35-year-old Justin Utley of Morganfield and a 40-year-old man from Henderson County. The older man was transported to a local hospital for treatment, while Utley was pronounced dead.

The Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy on Monday. Both the Medical Examiner’s Office and Henderson County Coroner’s Office ruled the death as a homicide by gunshot.

Witnesses said that there was a disagreement prior to the shooting. The suspects involved in the shooting fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Authorities identified a pair of suspects as a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Henderson County. Both teens were taken into custody and lodged in the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center.

This is an ongoing investigation.
