Plans for a proposed wind turbine farm in Henderson County have been scrapped.
This decision follows a public outcry against the Rock Bluff Energy Project. The project was initially proposed last year by Cordelio Power, which was recently acquired Pattern Energy.
As of now, Pattern Energy has cancelled the project and terminated contracts with landowners who had agreed to sell or lease their land for the project.
Henderson City-County Planning Commission Executive Director Brian Bishop told WSON that “The Planning Commission has not been officially notified that the project has been discontinued. The Planning Commission will proceed as if the project was continuing because the project was never meant to be one project specific. It was meant to cover any (Wind Energy Project) that could come to Henderson County.”
Bishop added that no other wind energy turbine project has been proposed in Henderson County.
The Henderson City-County Planning Commission scheduled a series of public hearings to allow people to air their views on wind turbines, three of which have been held.
The next public hearing is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16th in the fiscal courtroom at the courthouse.
