A law enforcement officer who was arrested over the weekend on criminal charges has resigned from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Gary Jones, 40, was arrested on charges including fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), second-degree unlawful imprisonment, and harassment – no injury on Sunday. On that same day, he was booked and released from the Henderson County Detention Center on a $500 cash bond.
At the time of his arrest, Jones was working for the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department. In a news release issued Thursday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said that on Monday Jones was placed on administrative leave without pay as a result of his arrest by the Henderson Police Department on Sunday.
The Sheriff’s Office added that Jones resigned from the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday and added that no further comments would be made by the agency.
Jones was also separately named in a lawsuit earlier this year by a woman who said she was shot while she was a passenger in a law enforcement vehicle pursuit.
