The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Thursday that its department had assisted ICE with an operation in Henderson County.
“We were provided information on eight individuals in Henderson County that have a criminal history, as well as being deemed a public safety and national security threat by ICE,” the Sheriff’s Department stated in the news release.
The agency added that the Sheriff’s Office is not a participant in the ICE 287G program.
“We were requested to assist with the operation in Henderson County,” said the statement. “I had deputies assigned with these agents and task force officers as I would with any other Federal Agency (FBI, DEA, or ATF), if requested. I feel an obligation to Henderson County to have a presence while a federal agency is in our community conducing an operation.”
Local media reported that ICE arrested eight people in Henderson last week. WEHT reported that the Immigrant Welcome and Resource Center had raised concerns about due process and racial profiling in such cases.
