A juvenile was arrested on criminal charges after officers recovered several stolen firearms over the weekend in Evansville.
Evansville Police Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South Bedford Avenue at just after midnight on Sunday in reference to shots fired in the area. The 911 caller reported hearing multiple gunshots.
Two males fled on foot when officers arrived. As officers searched the area, a caller reported there was an unknown male in their back yard.
When confronted by officers, the male suspect jumped a fence and fled on foot. He was soon taken into custody and identified as a juvenile.
Officers returned to the back yard the juvenile fled from and located a firearm hidden in a bush near where the juvenile was hiding.
The juvenile was transported to YCC on charges of Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana and Resisting Law Enforcement.
Through the course of this investigation, officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for a residence in the 800 block of Madison Avenue.
Officers seized three rifles and five handguns.
This investigation is ongoing, but there were no additional arrests made after the search warrant was executed.
From July 17 through July 31, 2026 the Evansville Police Department recovered 23 firearms. These recoveries are the result of proactive enforcement efforts, traffic stops, criminal investigations, and community policing initiatives aimed at reducing violent crime and preventing firearms from being used in future offenses.
