Juvenile charged as adult after allegedly filming himself with gun near Evansville high school

A juvenile student has been charged as an adult after police say he filmed himself with a gun near Bosse High School.

Evansville Police Department received a report about a student in possession of a firearm near Bosse High School on Tuesday.

A student from another school reported receiving a Snapchat video where the suspect, Julian E. Blanco,16, recorded himself with a firearm near the school. In the video Blanco can be seen inside a vehicle pointing to a firearm before making gestures with his hand as if he was shooting at the school.

EPD Juvenile Investigation Unit, along with EVSC Police, immediately began an investigation and area schools were placed in “Building Secure” mode. Officers learned that Blanco was at a local restaurant before taking him into custody at his residence a short time later.

The investigation revealed Blanco recorded the Snapchat video inside a relative’s vehicle near the intersection of Chandler Ave and College Highway. The firearm from the video was recovered by detectives.

Police said that thanks to the student’s brave decision to share the information, detectives were able to quickly identify Blanco and take him into custody. Blanco is preliminarily charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon and child in possession of a firearm.
