A man is accused of allegedly striking a child with his vehicle and fleeing the scene in Evansville.
Evansville Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Pollack and Weinbach Avenues at just before 5 p.m. Tuesday for a hit and run with injuries. Multiple 911 callers reported that a child had been struck by a vehicle that drove off after the accident.
When officers arrived, the juvenile was out of the roadway speaking with emergency personnel from the Evansville Fire Department. The juvenile was later transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses on scene were able to provide a description of the vehicle and driver, as well as what direction they fled.
With the vehicle description, officers were able to use Flock cameras to obtain a possible vehicle license plate. The vehicle was located behind a residence in the 1400 block of East Sycamore Street.
The driver, Marc C. Jones, 53, was still in the vehicle and admitted to hitting the juvenile. Jones added that he fled because he did not have a valid driver’s license.
Jones was arrested and charged with driving while suspended-resulting in injury and leaving the scene of an injury crash.
