HENDERSON, Ky. — Henderson County put together a dominant performance on both sides of the football Friday night, shutting out the Central Hardin Bruins 42-0 at home to improve to 3-3 on the season.
The Colonels wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as a bad snap on a Central Hardin punt attempt gave Henderson County an early opportunity. Christian Haygan scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a touchdown, giving the Colonels the early lead and setting the tone for the night.
Henderson County finished the game with 229 total yards, including 179 on the ground and 50 through the air.
Quarterback Brody Belt contributed 38 rushing yards on three carries while completing 4-of-7 passes for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Hezzi Harris hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass on his lone reception of the night, while Kingston Shidler caught the other touchdown pass on one of his two receptions.
Shidler also found the end zone on the ground and led the Colonels with 79 rushing yards on just four carries.
The night also marked the return of running back and defensive back Jack Dalton, who had missed multiple weeks after suffering a concussion. Dalton made an immediate impact, scoring two rushing touchdowns on his first two carries back. He finished with 53 rushing yards on those two attempts.
Henderson County’s defense was just as impressive, limiting the Bruins to 154 total yards. Central Hardin managed 143 rushing yards but was held to just 11 yards through the air.
The Colonels recorded 50 total tackles and forced three Central Hardin turnovers while holding the Bruins to just 4-of-12 on third-down conversions.
Jake Hall led Henderson County with eight tackles, followed by Parker Shappell with five and Spencer Kellen with four. Haygan added three tackles and a sack to go along with his special-teams touchdown.
Kieran Cole recorded Henderson County’s lone interception of the night, while Jaden Williams forced and recovered a fumble.
With the 42-0 victory, Henderson County moves to 3-3 on the season and earns its second consecutive win.
The Colonels will return home next Friday when they host George Rogers Clark. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Colonels Stadium.
