A Newburgh woman who led authorities on a chase has been arrested on a drug dealing charge.
Detectives with the Evansville Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force attempted to stop a red Jeep Cherokee traveling above the speed limit on Waterworks Road near U.S. 41 on Monday. The Jeep was traveling about 70 mph in a posted 40 mph zone.
Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle on U.S. 41, just north of Waterworks Road. Rather than stopping, the driver, Casondria Leeann Carter, 41, of Newburgh, fled northbound on U.S. 41.
As Carter continued northbound, detectives saw her throwing plastic bags from the vehicle. The bags were later recovered and found to contain approximately four ounces of suspected methamphetamine.
As Carter approached the intersection of U.S. 41 and Covert Avenue, she made an abrupt eastbound turn onto Covert Avenue. Carter failed to negotiate the turn and struck multiple vehicles that were stopped in the westbound lanes of Covert Avenue. Carter was then taken into custody by detectives.
Detectives immediately rendered medical aid to the occupants of the vehicles and requested an ambulance. The reported injuries were non-life-threatening. All parties were conscious and able to communicate with detectives. Four individuals were transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
Carter admitted to throwing the suspected meth from the vehicle. Detectives also located approximately one additional ounce of suspected meth on Carter. She was transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure and was later lodged in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Carter was charged with dealing in methamphetamine and resisting law enforcement.
