HENDERSON, Ky. (Sept. 29, 2026) – The single lane restriction on the southbound U.S. 41 Twin Bridge will remain in place after a follow-up inspection identified damage to a support beam beneath a portion of the bridge.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials said the single-lane restriction will remain in place as a precaution until repairs are made. Officials also said the bridge is structurally sound and safe to carry traffic.
The bridge does not rely on any one part for support. It was constructed with redundancy in its support system to ensure several parts work together to carry the weight of the structure.
An engineering analysis found the damaged beam can be safely repaired and the repair work is expected to take approximately a month to complete.
Officials are planning to develop a traffic-management plan to restore two lanes of traffic in each direction across the Twin Bridges while repairs are made.
The plan would allow one lane of southbound traffic to be shifted onto the northbound bridge, which will still carry two northbound travel lanes- a configuration used in the past.
The current schedule is for this traffic pattern to be in place by the end of next week.
Henderson County officials announced that to accommodate the creation of temporary traffic lanes related to repairs on the south bound Twin Bridge between Evansville and Henderson, access to Stratman Road and Wolf Hills Road from U.S. 41 in Henderson will be limited until further notice.
The entrance to Stratman Road at U.S. 41 will be closed to all traffic, but drivers can access Stratman via Racetrack Road or Sunset Lane. Cars will not be allowed to exit Stratman Road onto 41.
The entrance to Wolf Hills Road at U. S. 41 will be open to northbound traffic only. Vehicles will not be allowed to exit Wolf Hills Road onto U.S. 41. Drivers can follow Wathen Lane to Green River Road and then Watson Lane to get back to U.S. 41 from Wolf Hills Road.
Both closures are expected to take effect Tuesday.
Additional details about the temporary traffic configuration and repair timeline will be provided once the plan has been finalized and all necessary safety measures are in place.
The damaged support beam was identified during a follow-up inspection conducted Monday.
KYTC engineers are working with consultants and contractors to develop the repair and traffic-management plans.
Motorists should continue to use caution in the work zone and allow additional time when traveling through the area while the southbound lane restriction remains in place.
