MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (October 7, 2026) – A Bremen man has been charged with murder in connection with a Drakesboro woman’s death.
The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a residence on Wild Horse Lane in Bremen on Monday. Deputies located a deceased woman inside the home and contacted Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville for assistance.
Troopers identified the woman as 39-year-old Amber DeArmond of Drakesboro, Kentucky. A preliminary investigation indicates DeArmond suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
An autopsy has been requested. The Muhlenberg County Coroner’s Office assisted with the investigation, and DeArmond’s family was notified.
Troopers later located 33-year-old Skyler Shanks of Bremen on Kentucky-70. Shanks attempted to avoid law enforcement by hiding underneath the porch of a residence before fleeing on foot.
Troopers told Shanks to stop as he fled toward a wooded area. Trooper Leevi McMillin tased Shanks, who was taken into custody.
Shanks was lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center and charged with murder-domestic violence, tampering with physical evidence, criminal trespassing in the first degree, fleeing or evading police in the first degree, resisting arrest, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and public intoxication.
Detective Kirby Broadbent of the Kentucky State Police is the lead investigator. The investigation remains ongoing.
