Trooper Mack Brady died in an automobile crash while responding to a call for assistance on Nov. 9, 1966. He was 40 years old.

He swerved to avoid a head-on collision after someone pulled into his path during an emergency run. Brady had served with the Kentucky State Police for 15 years.

He was survived by his wife and two children. The 425 bypass in Henderson County was renamed the Trooper Mack E. Brady Memorial Highway in his honor.

“Kentucky State Police never forgets it’s fallen and will always be there for the family and community in honor of those have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service above self,” said Kentucky State Police Post 16 Public Affairs Officer Michael Wathen.

KSP Trooper Island is a free, non-profit summer camp operated by the Kentucky State Police on a secluded island in Dale Hollow Lake, located in Clinton County, Kentucky.

Developed in 1965 by founder Ted Bassett, the camp’s primary mission is to provide underprivileged children with structured recreation and leadership building while fostering positive relationships with law enforcement officers.

Trooper Mack Brady volunteered his time on the island with various work projects prior to it being open for use.
