Evansville Police Department said that a restraining order violation led to an officer-involved shooting Tuesday.
Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of East Illinois Street in Evansville just after noon Tuesday to a domestic violence call in progress.
A juvenile 911 caller reported that their mother was dragged into a residence by a male her mother had a protective order against. Before the officers arrived, the juvenile 911 caller reported hearing a loud bang inside the residence.
An officer arrived and spoke with the juvenile to try to determine what the loud bang was. The officer then approached the home and attempted to enter to check the welfare of the occupants.
When the door could not be opened by hand, the officer attempted to kick the door open while giving commands to open the door. The door was then opened by a man pointing a gun at the officer.
The officer fired multiple rounds at the suspect. The officer retreated from the front of the home before returning to the vehicle to get the juvenile 911 caller to safety.
While still outside the residence, a woman exited suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
The victim was provided medical treatment before being transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The male suspect did not survive his injuries. No officers were injured in this incident.
