Indiana State Police said retired K9 Boomer crossed over the rainbow bridge on Sunday.
Boomer faithfully served the Indiana State Police from 2014 to 2022, protecting communities, assisting fellow officers, and making a lasting impact on public safety.
Throughout his career, Boomer compiled an impressive record of service:
- 429 Searches
- 190 Arrests
- 394 Warrants
- 32 Tracks
- 29 Apprehensions
- 114 Perimeter Deployments
- 21 Firearms Removed from the Streets
- Over 100 Pounds of Illegal Drugs Removed from the Streets
But Boomer’s story didn’t end when he retired in 2022. For the past four years, he traded his working days for a well-deserved retirement surrounded by the family who loved him. His days were filled with relaxation, plenty of attention, and a menu fit for a king: cheeseburgers, French fries, steak, salmon, and pork ribs.
After years of faithfully serving others, Boomer finally got to enjoy being spoiled.
Boomer was more than a police K-9. He was a loyal partner, a trusted protector, and most importantly, a beloved member of his family. His service will not be forgotten, and neither will the memories he leaves behind.
Indiana State Police extended a sincere appreciation to Evansville Police Department Officer John Montgomery and his family; Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Schmidt and Deputy Sanders; and Jessica Hewig with Stone Ridge Veterinary for their compassion, support, and assistance with Boomer’s burial at the Evansville FOP PAL Camp. Their kindness and willingness to help during such a difficult time meant a great deal to Boomer’s family.
In Boomer’s memory, anyone wishing to make a contribution is encouraged to support Oliver’s Heroes, a nonprofit that helps cover medical expenses and provide food for retired police K-9s. These four-legged heroes spend their careers protecting our communities, and they deserve our continued care in retirement.
