Phase One of HMP&L’s utility pole relocation/replacement project is underway.
HMP&L and its subcontractor Groves Construction began work Thursday and will continue over the next 5-6 weeks. This work is part of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s upcoming Watson Lane widening project.
Phase 1 of this project includes installation of new poles placed in the widened right of way easement. The project runs east from Sunset Lane on Watson Lane, through the U.S. 41 intersection and ends at Stonegate Drive.
Two to three crews will be changing out poles between 6 a.m. Thursday through Saturday over the next five to six weeks.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the area, at times, as the project progresses. Motorists should obey any and all work zone traffic control measures.
The second phase of the project will consist of the cutover and reconductoring of the power lines and removal of old poles and lines in order to make way for the subsequent road widening project.
HMP&L said that good progress was made this past week at the west end of the project. Work will continue this week and should be completed on the west side of U.S. 41.
Work will then continue east through the U.S. 41 intersection and continue east on Watson Lane.
