BRANDENBURG, Ky. — Henderson County opened the 6A playoffs in impressive fashion Friday night, overcoming a halftime deficit to earn a convincing 39-7 road victory over Meade County in the first round.
The Colonels found themselves trailing 7-6 at halftime, but a dominant second-half performance on both sides of the football turned a close contest into a decisive playoff victory. Henderson County outscored the Green Wave 33-0 after the break to punch its ticket to the second round.

Offensively, Henderson County finished with 413 total yards, including 267 on the ground and 146 through the air. The Colonels recorded 15 first downs and played a clean game in terms of ball security, finishing with zero turnovers.
Senior quarterback Brody Belt led the way through the air, completing 10 of 16 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. Belt also contributed 75 rushing yards on eight carries, finding the end zone twice on the ground.
Running back Jack Dalton delivered another outstanding performance, rushing for 163 yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries. Dalton also added one reception for nine yards, giving the Colonels a major spark in the running game.

Through the air, Hezzi Harris led Henderson County with three receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. Jackson Loveless added three catches for 49 yards, while tight end Christian Haygan hauled in a 31-yard reception. Kingston Shidler finished with two catches for five yards.
The Colonels’ defense was equally impressive, creating five turnovers while holding Meade County to just 230 total yards. The Green Wave managed only 30 rushing yards, although they finished with 200 passing yards.
Meade County quarterback Ethan Jolly completed 10 of 22 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown, but Henderson County’s secondary made life difficult throughout the night, intercepting Jolly five times.

Harris, Jaxton Duncan, Dalton, Spencer Kellen and Belt each recorded an interception. Jace Duncan also contributed a forced fumble.
Defensively, Luke Mann led the Colonels with eight total tackles, followed by Haygan with six. Jace Duncan, Dalton and Parker Shappell each recorded four tackles.
Henderson County finished with three sacks on the night. Drake Davis Chapman accounted for two, while Arterrion McClatchey added another.

Despite committing 10 penalties for 105 yards, the Colonels’ ability to protect the football offensively and create turnovers defensively proved to be the difference. Henderson County finished without a turnover while forcing five Meade County interceptions.
With the victory, Henderson County advances to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs and will hit the road again next Friday for a rematch with McCracken County in Paducah.
The Colonels and Mustangs are bitter rivals, having just met on October 23rd in Paducah. McCracken County came away with a 49-35 victory in that regular-season matchup.
Henderson County will now look to turn the tables with a trip to the third round on the line as its postseason run continues.
